- ** Looking for names of Jacob's parents and additional siblings. Jacob was part of a "large family," per his obit, and was survived by a brother Daniel. Daniel Books and children of David Books attended his wife's funeral, so assume they are siblings. Obituary states Jacob was from Halifax, but 1810 and 1820 census records don't include likely Books parents in Halifax; more likely they lived in Lower Swatara area.

Jacob Books.
Death Comes to the Relief of a Suffering Man. The End of a Useful Life.
Jacob Books, whose illness was noticed in the columns of the Journal for several weeks past, died at the residence of his son-in-law, William C. Barr, on Saturday afternoon, April 4th, 1891. He was born near Halifax, Dauphin county, Feb. 12, 1815. About 50 years ago he came to Middletown, where he was married to Mrs. Sarah (Moore) Davis, of Halifax. Mrs. Davis was the widow of George Davis and mother of John Davis, both of whom are well known in Middletown, He is the father of 9 children, three of whom survive him, and reside in Middletown as follows: Mrs. William Fratts, of Catharine street; Mrs. William C. Barr, of Spring street; and Mrs. Charles Ulrich, of Catharine. Mrs. John Wise, who died some years ago, was also a daughter. The remaining 5 children died in their younger years. When Mr. Books first came to this place he was employed as a farm laborer. He afterwards became proprietor the Cross Keys Hotel, which in the primitive days of Middletown, was a popular resort for those engaged in rafting on the Susquehanna river, the hotel being situated on Susquehanna Street. He then became an employee of the Pennsylvania railroad, filling various positions of trust and responsibility for nearly a quarter of a century.
Mr. Books was held high in the estimation of his employers and when his health began to fail the company appointed him watchman, at the passenger station of this place, the position being created for his own special benefit. But age and ill health began to prey upon him and he was forced to retire from the service of the railroad company entirely and remain at the home of his daughter, where he was kindly cared for during the last days of his life. He was a quiet even dispositioned man and never was known to molest his fellow-man in any way. He has been a member of the M.E. church for more than 15 years and during that time has lead an upright Christian life. He was also a member of the P.R.R. relief association.
Three daughters, one brother, Daniel, who resides at Zion's View, York county, and several grand children survive him. His brother being the only one living of a large family.
His funeral was held this afternoon in the Bethel church, Rev. G. W. Getz officiating. Rev. S. H. Evans assisted in the services. Interment in the Middletown cemetery.
