Harold E. Hassler, 78, of Stouchsburg died Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at his residence. He was the husband of Shirley M. Rupp Hassler, to whom he would have been married 60 years on July 11.
Born in Stouchsburg, PA, on March 31, 1934, he was the son of the late James and Helen (Moyer) Hassler.
A member of Zion & St. John's Reed's Lutheran Church, Womelsdorf, he was co-owner of Hassler Brother's Excavating for 41 years. He was a life member of the American Motorcycle Association, Newmanstown Athletic Association, Robesonia Fish and Game Association, Keystone Fire Co. of Rehrersburg, Womelsdorf Rod and Gun Club, and the Marion Fire Co. He was co-owner of a modified race car at the Reading Fairgrounds in the 1960s and 1970s.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Cindy Wanner of Womelsdorf, and Sandy, wife of Robert Warner, of Ephrata; sons, Richard Hassler of Stouchsburg, Jessie, husband of Ann Hassler of Newmanstown, and Alan, husband of Cindy Hassler of Schaefferstown; sister, Anna DuCarme of Myerstown; brother, Jacob Hassler of Olympia, Washington; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
There will be no viewing or visitation. Services and interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
