MONTGOMERY A. MARGUERITE, 94, on Sept. 11, 2002, of Garden Spot Village, New Holland, formerly of Pine Beach, NJ, died of natural causes at home. A ceramist, she was one of a few potters who still created ceramics adapted from the designs of Pennsylvania German potters. Mrs. Montgomery taught pottery in private at an adult school in Haverford Township. She also taught dress design and dressmaking in an evening adult school in Phila. A member of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen, she was a director of its Philadelphia chapter. She won many awards in juried shows for her pottery. Her artwork also included needlework. She designed and sewed about 20 quilts. A graduate of the former Philadelphia Normal School, she attended the Pennsylvania Museum's School of Industrial Art, the former Drexel Institute and University of Pennsylvania. Mrs. Montgomery was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Havertown, for 42 years. She was president of Lutheran Women. She also was a member of First United Methodist Church, Toms River, NJ. Born in Phila., she was the daughter of the late Peter David and Mabel Mae Gill Hottenstein. Her husband, Richard, an Architect, died in 2001. Surviving is a daughter, Marguerite Anne Montgomery of Elverson, PA. She was preceded in death by a son, Richard Barry Montgomery, in 1990; 2 brothers, Edward Schroyer and David Fulmer Hottenstein, and a sister, Kathryn H. Rapp. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Contributions may be madein Marguerite's memory to the Garden Spot Village Benevolent Fund, 433 S. Kinzer Ave, New Holland, PA 17557. Arrangements are with the GROFF-HIGH FUNERAL HOME, New Holland, PA.
