Johann Nicolaus Beyer (John Nicholas Boyer, Johannes Nicholas Beyer) is the subject of Chapter 32 in American Boyers, 4th ed., 1940. Attributing his information to several descendants, but particularly to the one who had "the direct word of Nicholas Beyer's second youngest son, Rev. Joshua Boyer,", the historian states that Nicholas was born in Bavaria in 1753, and came as a young child to America with his parents, who left Bavaria for religious reasons. His dying father requested that the boy be brought up a Lutheran (he was apparently about four years old at the time.) He lived in Alsace, berks County, Pennsylvania, in the vicinty of "Spiece" (Spies's) Church, and was a tanner by trade, as verified by tax lists. Family tradition says that he was a Revolutionary soldier, possibly in the Continental Line. He had 19 children by two different wives, both Wentzels. He died in 1823, leaving a will which was dated December 14, 1815 and probated on the 29th of May, 1823, in which he left his estate to his wife Catharine for life.
