Dr. R. Bertolette, former psychiatrist
Dr. Richard deB. Bertolette, a former staff psychiatrist at the Reading Hospital, died Feb. 14 at 7 a.m. in Reading Hospital, where he had been a patient five days.
Bertolette, 83, Shillington, was predeceased by his wife, Fae (Harris) Bertolette, on March 31, 2003.
He practiced psychiatry on the staff of the Reading Hospital from 1960 to 1995. Bertolette conducted a family medical practice in Bernville from 1952 to 1960.
Born in West Reading, he was a son of the late Philip deB. and Anna (Oberholtzer) Bertolette.
Bertolette served his internship at the Reading Hospital and served his residency in psychiatry at Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia.
An Army veteran of World War II, he received a Bronze Star.
Bertolette was a 1940 graduate of Wyomissing High School and a 1947 graduate of Albright College. He was a 1951 graduate of Jefferson Medical College.
He was a member of the Bausman Memorial United Church of Christ, Wyomissing.
Surviving are a son, Dr. Randall deB., Vero Beach, Fla.; and a daughter, Michele (Bertolette) Rhoads, Wyomissing.
Other survivors include a sister, Frances E. (Bertolette) Kohr, Atlantic City, N.J.; three grandchildren and a greatgrandson.
He was predeceased by a son, Dana deB. Bertolette, in 2000.
Memorial services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Bausman Memorial UCC. Inurnment will be in the Laureldale Cemetery Chapel, Tuckerton. Henninger Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
