Dorothy K. Zerr, age 88, of Hamburg, Pa., died peacefully of natural causes in the Kutztown Manor Nursing Home on February 20, 2012, where she resided for the past year.
"Mom" or "Dottie", as she was usually called, was born in Maidencreek Township at home on the farm on August 16, 1923. She was the daughter of the late Reuben M. & Laura S. (Keller) Hoster.
She is survived by her longtime live-in companion, Walter J. Faust, daughter, Bernice (Bagenstose) Boyer, wife of Daniel Boyer, of Hamburg; and son, Richard L. Zerr, husband of Kimball "Dinkel" Zerr, also of Hamburg.
She is also survived by two sisters, Edith (Hoster) Reppert and Irene (Hoster) Flammer; and one brother, William Hoster.
She is also survived by three grandchildren: Lynn A. (Groh) Tschappat, Ruth T. (Groh) Brown, and Tana K. (Zerr) Connolly. There also are three great-grandchildren.
Mom or Dottie was preceded in death by her first husband, Warren F. Bagenstose, her second husband, Wendel D. Zerr, known as "Kingfish", both of whom owned and operated the Port Clinton Hotel up until 1966, and one daughter, Mary (Bagenstose) Groh. She is also preceded in death by two sisters, Ellen Engel and Laura Oberly, and four brothers: Theodore "Ted" Hoster, Charles "Chuck" Hoster, Howard Hoster and Leroy Hoster.
Mom loved cleaning, gardening, fishing, and most of all cooking a meal for someone. In all her years she never said a bad word about anyone. She would help anyone, even a complete stranger. She lived a simple happy life and never asked for anything for herself, which is a thing of the past.
