Beatrice Marie Gabel, 83, known as Bea and Ma Gabel to some and Granny Bea to most, was born to the late George and Estella Mengel. She is survived by her brother, Kermit Mengel; sister, Laura Baver; son, Joseph Craig and his wife, Cassandra; son, John and wife, Leslie; daughter, Danita Keyser and husband, Henry, and daughter, Constance and companion, Benjamin; step-daughter, joanna Swartz and husband, Victor; 14 grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great grandchildren, friends, and love ones. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph; sister, Esther Kramer, brother, Eugene Mengel and beloved son, George.
She was a determined and very hard working woman who spent her life in motion, ensuring that everyone she loved was cared for. She worked for many years at Mechanical Rubber in Warwick, N.Y. and retired after 25 years as a housekeeper at the Arden Hill Campus of Orange Regional Medical Center in Goshen, N.Y. She was an active and dedicated member of the First Presbyterian Church in Chester, N.Y.
Bea most enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed knitting, crossword puzzles, and traveling. She was funny, witty and an incredibly intelligent woman who could answer any trivia question and teach others something new in every conversation. Her strength was always an inspiration and was admired by all who knew her. She will be most remembered not only for her radiant personality, huge heart and glowing smile but also for sharing her countless stories and gift of gab with all those who had the privilege and honor of meeting. her.
Funeral services will take place February 11 at First Presbyterian Church, Main Street, Chester, with both Rev. Robert Hoag and Rev. David Kingsley officiating. Burial will follow in Chester Cemetery.
