Mary Rebecca (Hivner) Lutz, 78, of Reading, passed away December 7, 2017, with her loving family by her side.
She was the wife of the late Kenneth J. Lutz and William C. Staver.
Born in Reading, Pa., on July 22, 1939, she was a daughter of the late Richard and Evelyn (Gernert) Hivner Scheungraber.
Mary was a graduate of Muhlenberg High School, class of 1958.
She was employed by General Battery for over 20 years and also worked for Walmart having retried from there in the early 90s.
Mary loved playing bingo, computer games and Bill Gaither's music. She was also a volunteer at Trinity Lutheran Deaf Church in Reading, where she was very active in decorating for the holidays and bringing Christmas cheer as "Mrs. Claus." She was also famous for her dessert making at the Senior Center.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Becky, wife of the late Paul Watkins Sr., of Reading, and Cindy, wife of Holt Sheirich, of Virginville. She is also survived by her two grandsons, Christopher Kissinger and Paul Watkins Jr..
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Richard and Robert Hivner.
A memorial service will be held December 18th, at 1 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Deaf Church Chapel, 527 Washington St., Reading, PA 19601.
Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Deaf Church, 527 Washington St., Reading, PA 19601; PA Breast Cancer Coalition, 529 Reading Ave., Reading, PA 19611; or to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 1541 Alta Drive, Suite 204 ,Whitehall, PA 18052. Stitzel Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale, PA 19605 is in charge of arrangements.
