John R. "Jack" Kuhn, 65, passed away January 23, 2018, in his North Heidelberg Township residence. He was the loving husband of Lori L. (Naftzinger) Kuhn. They celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary on November 6, 2017. Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Daniel and Vivian (Weiler) Kuhn.
Jack was a graduate of Conrad Weiser High School in 1970 and Rider University in 1975, where he received a basketball scholarship while earning his undergrad degree in business education. He also received a master's degree in school business administration from Temple University.
While a student at Conrad Weiser, he was on the All-County basketball team from 1968-1970, and was 4th team All State his senior year. Jack was the first Weiser player to score 1,000 points, finishing with 1,406 points in his career and was a member of the Conrad Weiser County
Championship Team in 1970. A two-sport athlete, Jack also placed 3rd in Districts in shot put as a member of the Weiser track and field team in 1970.
Jack enjoyed coaching children at Weiser, and was the junior high basketball coach for 4 years, and girls softball assistant coach for 9 years, leading the Scouts to 3 County Championship wins, 3 District Championship wins, and finishing second and third in States.
Jack was employed by the Conrad Weiser School District as the director of transportation and assistant business manager for 37 and a half years, retiring in 2010.
Jack was very active in his community and will be remembered for many accomplishments such as receiving the Distinguished Achievement Award from the Reading Berks Basketball Association in 2017, being treasurer of the West Reading Summer Basketball League since 2014 and Honorary Coach of the VOICES BCIAA Night of Champions in 2007.
He was also a tax collector in North Heidelberg Township from 2014 through 2017.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Robesonia.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Jessica L., wife of Luke R. Pisker, Danville; two siblings, James, husband of Donna Kuhn, Robesonia, and Danny, Wernersville.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Jennifer E. (Kuhn) Snyder, who died February 27, 2014.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, January 27, 2018, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 108 S. Robeson St., Robesonia, beginning at 11:00 am. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. in the church.
