Mae G. Wells, 95, formerly of Reading, died Feb. 20, 2007, at 6:05 p.m. in ManorCare Health Services, Muhlenberg Township, where she had resided since 2003.
Her husband, Walter W. Wells, died July 15, 1986.
Born in Hyde Park, she was a daughter of the late Hurley L. and Florence M. (Bailey) Reichart. She was predeceased by her stepmother, Florence (Manbeck) Reichert.
Mrs. Wells was employed by Nolde & Horst Knitting Mills and then in the drapery department by C.K. Whitner Co. Inc.
A member of Grace (Alsace) United Church of Christ, Hyde Park, Mrs. Wells was very dedicated to her church, having more than 65 years of perfect attendance.
At Grace UCC, she was an elder, member of the consistory, former Sunday school teacher, member of the Women's Guild, Ladies Aid Society, Mother's Class, Church Women United, Alsace Cemetery Board and the candy making and quilting circles.
Mrs. Wells was an excellent seamstress, making quilts, draperies and slipcovers for many years and sewing her own clothing. She also sewed the altar covers for her church. She had quite a "green thumb," which she passed onto her granddaughter, Cindy.
She is survived by her loving son-in-law, Lyle A. Care, Reading; her granddaughter, Cynthia L. Care, Reading; a nephew and several cousins.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Carolyn M. (Wells) Care, on Sept. 26, 2003; and three sisters: Evelyn R. Petz, Rita M. Michaels and Kathryn E. Simon.
Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. in Bean Funeral Homes Inc., 16th and Rockland streets, Hampden Heights, with the Rev. James W. Adam officiating. Burial will be in Alsace Cemetery.
