Joseph M. Mallon, 76, 420 Colorado, passed away Monday, July 19, 1999 at his home.
He was born Jan. 16, 1923 in Manhattan, the son of William Joseph Mallon and Cora Belle Allen Mallon. He grew up in the Butler and Virginia areas of Missouri and later in Hays.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II in the South Pacific Theatre. He was united in marriage to Betty L. William on May 2, 1955 at Manhattan. She survives of the home.
Mr. Mallon spent his entire life in the Manhattan area. He worked for many years at the St. Mary Hospital and later owned and operated the Mallon Trash Service. He retired in 1994.
He was a member of Seven Dolors Catholic Church, Lee Pierson VFW Post No. 1786 and the Elk's Lodge No. 1185, all of Manhattan. Other memberships included the Black Jack American Legion Post, St. George.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, James, Eugene and Charles Mallon; and a grandson.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Mallon is survived by seven sons, Joseph W. Mallon and George R. Mallon, both of St. George, Eugene C. Mallon, Gallup, N.M., Richard D. Mallon, Leavenworth, Gerald W. Mallon, Cloud, Minn., and John W. Mallon and Dean A. Mallon, both of Manhattan; two daughters, Virginia L. Mallon, Avon, Colo., and Joanna L. Mallon, Manhattan; two sisters, Mary Ann Goudy, Manhattan, and Dorothy Wesselmann, Acworth, Ga.; and 10 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home in Manhattan with Rev. Urbano Tin officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Ogden. Memorials can be made to the American Heart Association in care of the funeral home. The family of Mr. Mallon will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
