Velus G. Benson, 80, formerly of Topton, died March 10, 2005 in Cedarbrook, where he resided since February 1, 1997. He was the widower of Mae R. (Shoemaker) Benson, who died November 24, 1994. Born January 21, 1925 in Boydsville, Arkansas, he was the son of the late Loyd and Opal (Irby) Benson. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Topton. He was employed in the hotel and restaurant management business for more than 40 years. He served as manager of Brookside Country Club, Allentown, during the 1960s. He received a bachelor of science degree in hotel and restaurant management from Michigan State University in 1950. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the China-Burma-India Association.
Survivors: Daughters, Kathy (Benson), wife of Arthur Evans, of West Pittston, Dana (Benson), wife of Dr. Greg Frey, of Macungie, Diane (Benson) OShea of Fogelsville, Lane Benson of Allentown, Laurie Benson of Walnut Creek, Calif., Karol (Benson) Thomas of New Tripoli; son, Keith Benson of Winter Park, Fla.; brother, Loyd Benson of Piggott, Arkansas.
Services: Services and interment in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, Lebanon County, are private at the convenience of the family. The Ludwick Funeral Homes Inc., Topton, are in charge of the arrangements.
