Lydia Haag has no death certificate to identify parents. There are no church records that could be found showing her birth or baptism. There was no obituary or grave found as of this writing. The proof that she is the child of William Haag is by supposition.
Rebecca Berger’s birth certificate states her mother was Lydia daughter of Mr. Haag (fact 1). She was living with her father (William Haag) in 1850 and 1860 along with some of her brothers and sisters (fact 2 & 3). In 1850 she is living with her father, her step mother (Eva Schneider- fact 11) and seven siblings (fact 2). In 1860 she is living with her father and five siblings (fact 3). William Haag’s will states the names of two of his children, William Haag and Percival Haag as well as his son-in-law’s name, William Heister (fact 4). The will also states that there are seven children. One child died before his father- Levi Haag (fact 10). The death certificates (fact 5, 6, 7, 8 & 9) are for five of the children: Percival, Lovina, Catharine, Elizabeth and Matilda. All the death certificates state that William Haag is the father. Four death certificates state that Sarah Greim, unknown Grime, Sarah Greim and Sallie grime as the mother. One has the mother’s names as unknown.
There is also a church record and obituary confirming the information about Matilda Long and Catherine Hiester.
The census records shows her name with several of her siblings and the death certificates link the siblings back to the father and mother.
Lydia’s age is between the two sisters (fact 2) so her mother was Sarah Greim and her father was William Haag.
Note: Catharine Haag was not in either census with her father. Catharine Haag is in 1850 living with Michael and Catharine Henning. Catherine Henning is the sister of William Haag. She was 12 years old at the time.
